Brief Biography

Ruiqin Xiong received the B.S. degree in computer science from the University of Science and Technology of China (USTC), in 2001, and the Ph.D. degree in computer science from the Institute of Computing Technology (ICT), Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), in 2007.
He had been a Research Intern with Microsoft Research Asia (MSRA), Beijing, from Aug. 2002 to July 2007. He had been a Senior Research Associate with the University of New South Wales (UNSW), Sydney, Australia, from Sept. 2007 to Sept. 2009. He joined the School of Electronic Engineering and Computer Science, Peking University (PKU), in Feb. 2010, where he is currently a Professor. He had also been a Visiting Professor with Microsoft Research Asia (MSRA), Beijing, from Jan. 2012 to Dec. 2012.
He was the recipient of the IEEE VCIP 2011 Best Paper Award and the SPIE VCIP 2005 Best Student Paper Award. He has published about 100 papers in referred international journals (such as IEEE T-IP, IEEE T-CSVT, IEEE J-STSP, etc.) and conference proceedings (such as CVPR, DCC, ISCAS, ICIP, VCIP, etc.), which has been cited over 1230 times (till May 2017) according to Google Scholar (mirror), and over 790 times (till May 2017) according to Scopus. He is the co-inventor of more than 15 patent applications, among which 5 US patents and 3 CN patents have been granted. His research interests include statistical image modeling, machine learning, image and video processing, compression and communication.
